Can we stop our employees from discussing their pay rates amongst themselves?

No, you cannot prevent this. The Equality Act 2010 makes it unlawful to prevent employees having discussions to establish if there are differences in pay.

You can however require that pay rates are not discussed with others outside of the workplace.
